  • Why Lawton Shims?

There are multiple reasons that Lawton Industries, Inc., has continuously been number one in the marketplace for fifty years.

  • Lawton is the original manufacturer of pre-cut stainless steel shims and has been making them longer than anyone else on the market.

  • Lawton shims are the cleanest, most accurate, burr-free shims on the market.

  • Our shims are not pressed out on an assembly line. Each and every one of our shims are handled by human hands and looked at by human eyes 11 times in our process from the presses to the washers to the dryers, to the etchers, and finally hand counted, re-measured, and packaged. We take this extra time and hands on approach to ensure that every shim exceeds industry standards for quality.

  • Our shims are 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

  • Why does Lawton offer a 0.120” shim and not a 0.125”?

When Lawton began to manufacture shims in the 1970’s, Steel-Roll Mills listed the nominal thickness for 11 gauge sheet metal as 0.125”. Since then, the industry has agreed, that due to the allowable tolerance in actual thickness (see chart) of 304 Stainless Steel Sheets, the metal consistently measured closer to 0.120”.

In keeping with our promise to provide our customers with the most accurate shim possible, the thickness etched on these shims was changed from .125 to .120 in 2010.

If a micrometer is used on our 0.120 shim, and then on any other shim manufacturer’s 0.125 shim, they will both will measure closer to 0.120”.
